Lalaloopsy Free Sewing Pattern – Reversable Halter Dress

This pattern is for a reversible dress for Lalaloopsy 13″ dolls. I’ve been having difficulty finding any Lalaloopsy Free Sewing Patterns. One of the most basic patterns for any doll is the reversible dress. Alas my Google mojo failed to find me one sized for my LaLa. Oh woe betide. Armed with a ruler and my trusty french curve I battled for… well… at least a couple of hours. This war has now been won. Hopefully someone else will find it useful also.

Materials

  • 2 small pieces of fabric (10″ square of each should be approximately sufficient)
  • 11 1/2 inches of bias tape for neck tie. I used 1/2″ wide tape as that’s all I had but I believe wider tape will look better.
  • Thread
  • Fabric snaps or hook and loop/Velcro for closure.
  • PDF dress pattern from HERE

Instructions

  1. Cut out the PDF dress pattern from HERE
  2. For each of the two pieces of fabric fold the fabric in half and cut out the pattern piece on the fold.
  3. Lay pieces with the pattern sides facing one another.IMG_6931
  4. Sew the two pieces together along the underarms, sides and bottom. Leave a gap at the top neckline.IMG_6933
  5. Trim the seam, clip the corners and nip the seam along the curves. IMG_6938
  6. Turn the fabric right side out and iron flat. IMG_6941
  7. Now would be a good point to attach any trim, ribbon or decorative embellishments.
  8. The next thing to do is to attach the bias binding. Fold the bias binding over the neck of the dress and pin it in place. There should be approximately a 3″ length of bias tape to one side of the neck leaving approximately a 5″ length of bias on the other side. (I have made the lengths of the bias tape uneven on purpose. I wanted a side tie to make the dress look more retro. You could of course just attach the bias so that each side has a tie that is the same length)
  9. Sew the bias binding closed. Use your preferred method for finishing the bias ends. I turned them in and sewed them. An alternative option might be to apply some anti-fray glue (If making this for a young child please use common sense. I suspect most anti-fray glues are toxic).
  10. You should now have something that looks a bit like this on one side:IMG_6945
and this on the other side:IMG_6944
  11. Attach snaps or hook and loop/Velcro as preferred.

Errata

In case anyone is interested the dress is being modeled by my Loli doll, a Lalaloopsy clone that’s SOFT!!!. The PDF pattern can be bought over on Etsy from the very talented QuirkyArtistLoft.

If you have any problems with this dress pattern, notice any errors or have any feedback please leave a message in the comments below. Links to pictures of finished projects are gratefully received. I’m now off for a cup of tea.
